General Meeting
Location:Auditorium
Date:Thursday, January 7, 7:00 pm
Topic 1: Interbase 7
Speaker: Wayne Niddery, Logic Fundamentals, Inc.
Topic 2: Firebird
Speaker: Sean Leyne, leyne@atkin.com
Topic 1:
Version 7 introduces significant improvements and new features. The most important of these is a dramatic performance increase with the ability to use multiple CPUs (SMP support) and much better handling of concurrent queries. In addition, version 7 introduces a new Boolean type, real-time monitoring, some security improvements, for Java users, a Type 4 JDBC driver, and a few other enhancements.

These will be covered in more detail, with demonstration of better query handling, the Boolean type, and some examples of querying the new system monitoring tables.

Topic 2:
Firebird is the Open Source version of InterBase. It is a relational database offering many ANSI SQL-92 features that runs on Linux, Windows, and a variety of Unix platforms.
Once both products are presented Wayne and Sean will debate the benifits of one over the other.
